What should that backlink actually cost?

Publisher pricing is wildly inconsistent because most buyers have no reference point. Set the metrics, pick the niche and the link type, and see the range a placement like that normally trades in, plus what legitimately moves a quote up and what should make you walk away.

Backlink price estimator

Move the sliders. Read the range. Then judge the quote in your inbox.

Nothing here is a quote or an offer. It is a sanity check built on the averages we see across the marketplace, and on what we pay for our own sites, so you can tell an ambitious price from an absurd one.

Illustrative ranges for education, shaped by averages across the marketplace. Not a quote, an offer or a price list. Live marketplace pricing is per site and visible before you commit.

Read the quote, not the badge

What legitimately moves a price up.

If a quote sits far above the top of the range, the thing to ask for is the traffic and relevance data that justifies it. A DR number on its own justifies nothing.

FactorEffectWhy
Real organic trafficLargeA DR 60 site with 200 visits a month is a link farm with good metrics. Traffic is the honesty check on DR.
Topical relevanceLargeA relevant DR 40 beats an irrelevant DR 70 for almost every commercial query.
Outbound link hygieneMediumPages stuffed with paid outbound links pass less, and age worse.
Regulated nicheMediumFewer publishers will accept the vertical at all, so scarcity sets the price.
Native-language contentMediumA local writer costs more than a translation, and is the difference between a placement that reads and one that does not.
Homepage or nav placementAvoidCheap per link, and the clearest paid-link footprint you can leave.

Walk-away signals

Four things worth more than any price negotiation.

01

“We can’t share traffic data”

Any legitimate publisher or broker can show organic traffic for the site. Refusing is the answer.

02

A price list with no site names

Buying by DR band alone means buying relevance blind. You should see the site before you pay for it.

03

Sitewide or footer placement

It is cheap because it is worth less and looks paid. In-content editorial placement or nothing.

04

Guaranteed rankings

Nobody can guarantee a position. A supplier who says otherwise is telling you what they are willing to claim, not what they can do.

About the numbers

How the estimate is built.

Where do these ranges come from?

They are shaped by the averages we see across the marketplace, a 1,100+ site inventory across nine markets, and by what our own money sites pay for placements. They are deliberately presented as a range, because a single number would imply a precision that does not exist in this market.

Is this a quote?

No. It is an education tool. Real pricing is per site and is shown in the marketplace before you commit to anything.

Why does my supplier charge double this?

Sometimes for good reasons: exceptional traffic, tight relevance, a hard vertical, or a news site with real editorial standards. Often for one bad one: a reseller chain, where the same placement is marked up two or three times before it reaches you. Ask which it is.

Does a higher DR always mean a better link?

No. Relevance and real traffic decide whether a link does anything. DR is a convenient badge that is easy to inflate, which is exactly why it is priced so inconsistently.

What about link velocity?

Pace matters as much as price. Ten links in a fortnight after a year of nothing is a pattern, and patterns are what get looked at. Build at a rate that would look unremarkable to someone reviewing the profile by hand.
